This morning Edwin "Sarge" Sargent, Executive Director at The Western Avenue Community Center, was a guest speaker in the African American History class at BHS. Sarge has been a mentor in D87 for a long time, a former volleyball coach, and has also worked with D87 through Project Oz.

During his visit today, Sarge engaged juniors and seniors in a thought-provoking discussion about future job opportunities, mental health, and the value of their "intellectual capital" and shared his powerful spoken word poetry with the students.
